TakeNote v1.0

Download (84 KB)

Description

TakeNote manages files with lots of small pieces of text, keeping them in a tree hierarchy. It can be used to store notes, code snippets, to-do lists, contact information, etc.

I've intentionally made TakeNote work exclusively with plain text (i.e. without formatting) to keep it small and simple. There are other programs on the Web much more powerful and advanced, but all of them are big, slow, and resource-intensive! On the other hand, TakeNote is very light and won't hog your system.  :)

Usage

The main window has a tree and a text box, which are initially empty. You can add notes on the tree, and select them to edit their text (use F6 to quickly toggle the focus between the tree and the text box).

The keys for adding notes are:

  • F4: insert before the current note
  • Sh-F4: append at the current level
  • Ctrl-F4: add a child

You can also delete/rename them, change their icon etc. Moving & copying notes is currently not implemented (it will be in the next version :).

For each individual note you can specify whether the text will wrap or not (shortcut key: Ctrl-W).

Many preferences, including auto saving of edited files, default note attributes, etc., can be set in the Options dialog (menu Tools|Options).
