Google's Greek Fixer v0.2Download (26 KB) Description
Occasionally, Google manages to mess up the encodings of some messages. Sometimes, it's the posters' fault (who do not set up their encodings properly), and sometimes it's just Google's fault. With this little add-on, you can finally work around this irritating little "bug" with just a simple click. Click on the thumbnail to see a screenshot of a greek message in Google, before and after fixing it. UsageInstalling this add-on will make a new button available for the IE toolbar. Right-click on the toolbar and select Customize. On the bottom of the left list you'll find a button named "Google's greek fixer". Drag it to the right list and position it at a convinient place. After you close the Customize dialog, the new button will appear in the toolbar. So, the next time you'll come across a page with messed-up greek content, click this button and the text will be repaired. |
How does this work? GGF simply reads the contents of the page, maps any extended characters to the Greek ISO encoding and rewrites the resulting HTML.
The root of the problem When you post to a greek newsgroup, you should use a greek encoding, preferably "iso-8859-7". You can find instuctions in Vesuvios' page, covering both Outlook Express and Forte Agent. |
