Brief curriculum vitae...
He graduated from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Faculty of Agriculture. He obtained his Master’s and Doctoral degree from the Paris XI and VI University respectively, in France.
His research interests include phytopathology and ecotoxicology. He has worked at the University of Thessaloniki, Faculty of Agriculture, the Paris laboratory of Cryptogamy and the Technical School of Iraklion, Crete.
He is currently working as a researcher at the Chania Institute of Subtropical Plants and Olive Tree laboratory of phytopathology, where he deals with fungi determination and the search of new chemical, biological and biotechnological methods for plant diseases control.
In Greece, he pioneered in the determination of more than 50 fungi species and a new one, the Botryosporium longibrachiatum var. megaspora.
More specifically, he examined the possibility of plant diseases control with the aid of solar energy (solarization) , the use of artificial suppressive soils, antagonistic microorganisms, soft and environmental friendly plant-protective products and the utilization of allelopathy. His contribution to the study of the effectiveness of new active fungicide substances is important as well. He has published three books on tomato and cucurbitaceae diseases and pests.
He participates in a number of international joint programs (Cyprus, Hungary), in the networks for the restriction of methyl bromide in the Mediterranean countries and the support of the cultivation of Castanea sativa, and in many EU programs.
He is a member of the Greek, French and Mediterranean Phytopathology Society and a member of the IFOAM.
