Air Traffic Control
Air Traffic Control is provided in Greece at three basic levels, which dynamically interact and communicate with each other:
a) At the very local level there is Aerodrome Tower Control, situated close to the rynway(s) and in charge of the control of departures and arrivals of aircraft (a/c) within visual range.
b) On a larger scale Aerodrome Approach Control handles a/c within the Aerodrome Terminal Area (TMA) which spreads over an area roughly 20 -40 Nautical Miles around the airport.
c)And last but not least is the Area Control Center (ACC) that provides ATC services for a/c on a geographic scale spanning hundreds of Miles. In Greece it is represented by the Athinai ACC and the Makedonia ACC.
ATC service is furthermore supported by the Reporting Office and the NOTAM Office which serve as an informational interface between a/c operators, crews and ATC.
Other basic proffessional support is provided by Electronic Engineers, Technicians, Communication Technicians etc.
The whole web of ATC services and its collaborating specialists is under the umbrella of the Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority (HCAA).
