Under Windows, all devices like cd readers and writers are treated like
SCSI devices under a unifying approach implimented via ASPI layer.
In other words, the right ASPI layer is needed so that any program can
properly recognize a cd recorder. Some programs use their own ASPI drivers,
but usually cdr programs rely upon the default ASPI layer. If this is
outdated, it may not properly support the control of the hardware.
This may be the case when updating the ASPI layer with a buggy new version,
or when a program installation damages the existing ASPI layer. Whatever
the case, it is wise to always keep a safe copy so you can reinstall ASPI
drivers if this is needed.
