In multisession, you can store data on a cd and later add more if you
wish, till you finalize the cd so that no more data can be added.
Each time you add a session, about 15MB of free space are lost. This
happens because a separate lead in-out has to be written for every session,
and because ta proper link to previous sessions has to be created.
The last point is extremely important. If you just add a session, then
only this session is visible. Previous sessions will continue to be physically
present on the cd surface, and can be retrieved with various cdr programs,
but will not be accessible any more.
Instead of just writing another session on a multisession cd, you must
first import all previous sessions, so that proper linking information
is written on the cd, unifying all of its -new and older- contents.
This provides multisession with an important advantage, since you can
select to replace files with their latest versions for backup purposes.
Various possibilities exist, but this depends on the features supported
by the software used.
