CD Recording FAQ

2. The CD Recorder
2.1. What can I do with a CD Recorder?

Though a cd recorder is not necessary for computer operation, it has become a valuable peripheral that can easily justify its cost. Buying a cd recorder and investing some time and effort to learn the basics of its operation opens a new world of creativity.

Indeed, with a cd recorder you can :

  • backup your work, including texts, spreadsheets, computer art, program code, html files...
  • archive files like programs you have downloaded, mp3 files stored on your hard disk, or photos taken with your digital camera
  • easily share large files with others
  • store your hard disk on cds, so you can easily restore it in case of an emergency
  • create audio cds with your own music selections from other cds, mp3 files, midi files, or your own recordings
  • convert your LPs to cds, especially if you own rare and expensive vinyl disks
  • make copies of your own audio cds so you can carry the copy in your car or at your work without worrying about damaging the original
  • copy the original cds of expensive software so you can always keep the original cds safe
  • copy game cds, so you can easily play them with others on your network
  • archive your own videos, or even create cds that will play on stand alone players
  • make a digital photo album with your own selection of photographs
  • use a cd as a giant floppy disk
  • reproduce even hundreds of your own cds and distribute them

As you can see, what can be done with a cd recorder is limited only by your own creativity!
