If you wish to use more than one recorders at the same time, you have
to be careful with your selections.
The interface is the first important thing. Due to its higher specifications,
SCSI is the only viable choice. You need a PCI SCSI card of good quality
and you can connect on it as many recorders as possible, though it is
better to connect a maximum of 4 recorders on each SCSI controller and
add more controllers id necessary.
If you intend to connect more than 2 recorders, you will have to stack
them, so you have to take under serious consideration the heat generated
by the models you plan to use, otherwise you will end up with literally
burned drives.
The next decision has to do with the software. Not all programs are able
to use more than one recorder at the same time. Some programs allow you
to open another instance and use it for another recording task while the
first instance is already occupied with another, but it is wiser to prefer
a program inherently capable for this job. If you need to use a specific
program, you have to check whether this program requires that all recorders
are of the same model, or even the same firmware version.
Though the software factor is extremely important, more and more programs
support writing to multiple recorders, however this scenario would only
appeal to those who need to produce a really large number of copies with
their home computer.
Another option is the use of an autoloader. An autoloader is a big box
holding bare cd recording mechanisms, which are automatically fed with
blank media by robotic mechanism. In this way, you can produce a very
large number of copies without any user interference needed. This is an
optimal solution for massive reproduction, but comes at an equally high
price.
