CD Recording FAQ

7. AudioCD
  7.7. Making compilation CDs

There are many options when writing compilation cds.

The first one, and also the optimal, is to gather all tracks and transfer them in one go in DAO mode. This allows you to set all gaps between tracks and is the preferred way to burn audio.

An interesting variation is to record in SAO mode, which allows the additional of sessions at a later time, while still having control of the cd layout for each session. However, you may find it difficult to play such cds in a cd player, where only the first session will be recognized.

The second option is to leave the cd open (not finalized) and add tracks whenever you want to, till the cd is full. This means that you will have to use TAO mode and accept a 2sec gap between tracks. The cd will be playable only in a cd recorder till you close (finalize) it.
