 Line 6 has announced the availability of PODxt, which is, as you may guess, POD's new version. The highlights are the ability to connect to a computer via USB, so that you can record digitally from POD and use it as an output, and even flash the firmware this way. The major drawback is that the software necessary is not ready yet, which is really a pity.
Other highlights are improved ergonomics and more effects, including octave. At Line 6 site you can download audio samples so that you can judge the sound quality yourself, but my impression is that some of them are very impressive (like the piezo emulation), while some others sound weak. Anyway, this is a matter of personal taste, and PODxt is an important step in digital amp modelling despite its weaknesses. |

Variax by Line 6 : Digital Guitar Modelling

| After its well known amp modelling products, Line 6 has taken a further step, Variax, which looks like a Strat, but can sound like a Strat, a Tele, a Rickenbacker, a Gibson, and the list goes on. Variax can model a dozen of classic sounds, and so far there have been many positive comments for this new technology. I hope there will soon be a sample in local shops so I can share some first hand experiences.
