21 Imperatives the easy way
There is another,
easier way to express a command with the help of the very useful word ‘να’.
The sentences below
contain a schoolteacher’s instructions to her pupils.
1)
Non-continuous
singular
|
Γιώργο,
να πας σπίτι τώρα,
να
ανοίξεις την τσάντα
σου,
να
βγάλεις τα βιβλία
σου
και
να κάνεις τα μαθήματά
σου.

George,
go home now,
open your
bag,
take out your
books
and do your
homework

2)
Continuous singular
|
Γιώργο, στο
μέλλον,
να πηγαίνεις σπίτι,
να
ανοίγεις την τσάντα
σου,
να
βγάζεις τα βιβλία

και
να κάνεις τα μαθήματά
σου.

3) Non – continuous
plural/polite
|
Παιδιά,
να πάτε σπίτι τώρα,

Continuous plural/polite
|

Non - continuous
commands are formed by putting να before the subjunctive and continuous
commands by putting να before the present tense.
We can also use verbs
with να to give commands in the form of advice, even to ourselves!
