3 - The little word ‘σε΄and the verb 'to be'
σε
means ‘in’, ‘at’ or ‘to’. It
is often linked to the word for ‘the’ in Greek. σε
+ το = στο,
σε
+ τα = στα σε
+ τη(ν)
= στη(ν) σε
+ τις = στις
σε + το(ν) = στο(ν) σε
+ τους
= στους
These new words can mean either ‘in the’, ‘at the’ and ‘to the’. Τhe
verb ‘to be’
You
will notice that the words for ‘I’, ’you’, ‘he’, ‘she’, ‘it’
etc. are not shown in the above table. To say ‘I am’ in Greek it is
sufficient to say just ‘είμαι’.
The words for ‘I’, ’you’, ‘he’, ‘she’, ‘it’ etc. do
exist but are only used in special circumstances which we will consider later
